Osteospermum is a mounding, warm weather annual and tender perennial. These daisy-like plants from South Africa are among the showiest flowers for gardens and homes. Their blooms will often have contrasting colors at the center or on the underside of each petal, appearing from late spring until autumn, on erect or trailing stems. The shrubby plants will have oval green or gray-green leaves that are sometimes bluntly toothed. Osteospermum is commonly known as the African daisy.

The Osteospermum Tradewinds Series, bred by Syngenta Flowers, features a variety of beautiful petal colors, each with a unique blue-eyed bloom. Tradewinds Yellow Imp. features bright yellow daisy with sapphire blue eyes. It is commonly used in mass planting or as an edging crop in the garden, and in hanging baskets and planters on the patio. The taller and fuller varieties go nicely as mixed fillers in the garden. Osteospermum grows best in moist, fertile, well-drained soil, and is a full sun exposure flower. Osteospermum thrives in the heat and is easy to grow. Key features include heat, frost, and drought tolerance, deer resistance, and continuous bloom production throughout the entire season.
