Lobularia is a semi-trailing, warm weather annual and tender perennial. This compact herbaceous ornamental is native to the Canary Islands and regions along the Mediterranean, and is commonly known as Sweet Alyssum. The leaves of this variety are fine, linear, and pale green or gray-green. In late spring or early summer it becomes covered with dense, showy clusters of tiny four-petaled flowers that emit sweet, permeating fragrance which is attractive to butterflies. This variety is fast growing and floriferous. Lobularia blooms will continue through the season if conditions allow.

It is commonly used in the landscape as ground coverage, or featured in hanging baskets and window box displays. The taller and fuller varieties go nicely as mixed fillers in the garden. Lobularia grows best in moist, fertile, well-drained soil, and is a full to partial sun exposure flower. Lobularia thrives in the heat and is easy to grow. Purple Stream will bloom all season long. Two key features of Purple Stream are heat and drought tolerance. This variety also does not require deadheading.
