Torenia is a compact, mounding annual and tender perennial. These plants are upright and bushy, typically with bright to dark green and, in some cases, red-hued leaves. These plants originate from tropical and subtropical Asia, Africa, and the Americas. They naturally inhabit forests and many exist at high altitudes. Torenia flowers are variable and most are showy, with tubular, bilateral blossoms that have three lower petals and two upper petals. Many have a wishbone-like structure inside comprised of two stamens that arch and come together. The flowers, which appear as tiny trumpets, range in color from pink, blue, purple, and white.

Both the Catalina and Summer Wave Series of Torenia are bred by Proven Winners, is commonly used for ground coverage, as a border crop, or in shade gardens. The taller and fuller varieties go nicely as mixed fillers in the garden. Torenia grow best in moist, fertile, well-drained soil, and is a full shade to partial sun exposure flower. A unique feature of Torenia is their profuse flowering, which makes for a full, lush garden. Torenia will continuously bloom all season long. Key features of this variety include heat and shade tolerance, deer resistance, and no deadheading required.
